Belt

December 19th, 2007 by Em

Often the tongue of the belt was quite long, and hung down in front for as much two feet, depending on the size of the wearer.belt1.jpg belt2.jpg  pouch-on-belt.jpg swordholder.jpg

ALGARDI, Alessandro 1626 marble bust, for the cloak/fur thread

December 12th, 2007 by torin

Laudivio Zacchia 1626, marble bustI know this is a little late period for us, but look at the way the cloak is draped, yet clearly his status as a nobleman doesn’t detract from the gentleness of his garments

AERTSEN, Pieter Peasants by the hearth 1560’s

December 12th, 2007 by torin

Peasants by the hearth 1560’sNotice how the servingwoman is dressed in somber clothing, perhaps a Puritan, and how the rowdy tavernmates wear bright (somehow clean) clothing.    Also, how the yellow guy’s belt is situated with his knife/arms/moneypouch.
