AERTSEN, Pieter Peasants by the hearth 1560’s by torin

Peasants by the hearth 1560’sNotice how the servingwoman is dressed in somber clothing, perhaps a Puritan, and how the rowdy tavernmates wear bright (somehow clean) clothing.    Also, how the yellow guy’s belt is situated with his knife/arms/moneypouch.

    This is a pretty bawdy tavern, just noticed where the servingwoman’s hand is around the ‘knife’ of the yellow guy. Maybe she’s stealing it. The revelers in the background also have their hands in odd places.
