The design takes into account how in a 3d world, the audience can zoom/pan around “backstage”… so we want to leave the real backstage as an area they shouldn’t be panning into, which brings the corridor outside Bill’s apartment to the set, which they can freely pan into for the traditional offstage parts, such as when future-Lucy yells from traditional offstage.
Also, the design divides the stage into third’s, naturally according to the Globe Theatre’s stage, as demarcated by the columns. Best seen in visuals, as in this brief clip:
